The quartering, or the writing of space according to Pierre Faucheux

Pierre Faucheux (1924-1999) was one of the major figures in French publishing in the aftermath of the Second World War. Having largely renewed this field of graphic design, he crossed the second half of the 20th century, leaving multiple marks that are as many experiments revisiting the avant-gardes or inscribing themselves in the artistic trends of his time. Outside of his studio, he developed a visual work consisting of collages and photographic "splittings". Finally, he also devoted his career to architecture, associating himself with the projects of various architects or developing museum developments and exhibition scenographies.

Faucheux conceived architecture as writing and bookmaking as architectural work: writing space and being an architect of the book, such was the great divide that he set out to maintain throughout his career. Based on this notion of divide, which he adopted following Charles Fourier and then the surrealists, this publication, which follows research conducted at the Toulouse Institute of Arts, aims to deepen critical knowledge of Pierre Faucheux's work.
