    Fashion as indiscipline

Exposed, publicized, praised or criticized, fashion defines a significant part of the material history of our societies. Like its complex and mobile industry, it constitutes a discipline in the making, an interdisciplinary field of research that has gradually appropriated the analytical grids and critical tools of neighboring sciences, while feeding on its own paradoxes and ambiguities.

Between permanence and novelty, materiality and immateriality, Fashion as Indiscipline aims to testify to the richness of this creative field by sketching an inventory of thinking on, by and for fashion. Researchers, philosophers, creators, performance authors, collectors and artistic directors are invited to question these territories together around four central themes: the formation of styles between clichés and emancipations; the forms of conservation of fashion, both artistic and heritage; the relationship between this industry and the market; and finally the current processes of creation, in the light of an ecological and resilience perspective.

This work is the result of the eponymous conference organized by the School of Decorative Arts and the Duperré School in Cerisy in 2021.
